Goodwill Towards Man

The end of the year is a beautiful time on earth. The season of giving thanks yields to a season of empathy and goodwill towards man. As many remember all that they have to be grateful for, others are reminded of misfortune and the struggles they have faced. There is nothing more in line with the spirit of the season than lending a hand to those who are less fortunate (yes, even a Christmas ham pales in comparison!). Sacrificing time and energy for another is not only a noble cause but a wonderful reminder of all that one has to be grateful for. For those living in Mankato, Minnesota there is a volunteer opportunity on every corner. Here is a short list of the many ways that one could offer to make a difference in the life of another this year:

MANKATO AREA PUBLIC SCHOOL’S COMMUNITY VOLUNTEER PROGRAM

Children are truly our future. The public school system needs all the help available to make education as effective as it could be for as many students as possible. Volunteers are needed in all areas of math, science, reading, and writing.  Scheduling is flexible and adaptable to the individual volunteer. After a quick background check you could be on your way to making a significant difference in the life of a child!

AMERICAN RED CROSS

The American Red Cross has built an international presence based on the idea that there is no higher calling than to alleviate human suffering by mobilizing volunteers. The opportunities to help in the Greater Mankato Area are endless. From helping to deliver food to the hungry, to supporting volunteers in an office-based setting the Red Cross offers every possible opportunity imaginable. All the necessary training for each position is provided by the organization and schedules are flexible as needed.

THE CHILDREN’S MUSEUM OF SOUTHERN MINNESOTA

The Children’s Museum relies heavily on the support of donors, families, volunteers, and the support of the Greater Mankato community. Volunteers are constantly needed to help supervise children and museum exhibits, assist with special fundraising events, teaching special skill sets, and designing presentations. Give back to the community this year by helping with the Children’s Museum.

HELP YOUR NEIGHBOR

If you have limited time or don’t particularly care for the structure of volunteer opportunities simply create your own. Snow removal proves a difficult (and constant) task for many of Mankato’s older residents. Offer to shovel a driveway or two, it is a great workout! Help someone on your street remove the wet, sticky leaves from their gutters or front walks and help ensure that no one is injured falling on them. When you make too much food for dinner consider bringing some to a neighbor. Supplies of firewood can make a major difference in someone’s day, so offer to help collect and stack it.

You could be the difference in someone else’s life. Take some time this season and give back to the world that has offered so much to so many. From our family at Kohlmeyer Hagen Law Offices to yours, Happy Holidays!
