Luis Moreno, criminal defense lawyer, joined our Criminal Law Division in July 2023, bringing with him years of courtroom experience and a client-centered approach shaped by his work as a public defender. Luis is drawn to the constitutional protections at the heart of criminal defense and began his career determined to safeguard individual rights and ensure every client’s voice is heard. His background also includes time as a prosecutor’s intern, which gives him valuable perspective on how the other side thinks and how to find common ground when possible.
Luis believes in empowering clients to lead their own case. He provides the knowledge, direction and legal support to help them move forward with confidence. Luis recognizes the fear and uncertainty that often comes with criminal charges. He works to replace anxiety with understanding. By sharing his experience and walking clients through what to expect, he helps bring calm to stressful situations. His military background reinforces his belief in preparation. He often rehearses scenarios with clients so they’re confident and ready for each step of the process.
Luis takes the time to get to know his clients as people, not just case files, and believes in building genuine relationships. Whether defending someone facing a first-time DWI or a more serious charge, his goal is to help them move forward, learn from the experience, and return to a sense of normalcy. His openness to creative solutions and willingness to look beyond the conventional path often uncover opportunities others might miss.
Within the firm, Luis is a collaborative team player who is quick to offer research support, share case law, and work across practice areas when family law and criminal law intersect. He is particularly passionate about cases where immigration issues overlap with criminal charges. He understands how significantly the outcome can affect clients and their families and works diligently toward the best possible result.
Outside of work, Luis enjoys working on and driving classic cars, surfing when he can get to the coast, and reading. He is earnest, calm, and guided by integrity, which are qualities his clients quickly come to value. His greatest reward is knowing he’s made a meaningful difference in his clients’ lives.
