2024 Winner: Niara Mims
Biography: I am Niara Mims, a rising senior at Southern University majoring in political science, and aiming to be a future social justice lawyer. I am originally from Oakland, California but I have been enjoying my time spent in Louisiana for my education.
Reaction Statement: I am incredibly honored to receive this scholarship. As a black woman, I am very aware of how the overuse of incarceration disproportionately affects my community. This scholarship will go towards my education and it brings me one step closer to gaining an education that will help me challenge systemic inequalities and advocate for change.
